cold storage in ladakh

Since Ladakh remains cut off for half a year and there is no facility to grow vegetables and fodder during those winter harsh months, food shortages are common. YKA is setting up 5000 plants daily hydroponic set up at the site to overcome the problem of growing vegetables and fodder in sub-zero months, which would eventually be propagated throughout Ladakh. Including harsh terrains like Changthang.YKA is also setting up fruit ripening chambers in phase 2 to provide/supply locally ripened fruits.

YKA has tied up with the Indian Armed Forces located in the Ladakh region, for storage, and supply of food, vegetables, frozen items, and other perishables during both road close & road open periods using the storage facility used by YKA. Last year Army used this facility to stock its food items for the first time in the history of India during the Road close period winter months.
The success of food/resource availability during road closure periods will be resolved. Thereby encouraging the local Hotel and tourism history, to host tourists during the road closures and winter months. This storage facility has been part funded by PNB.
